How not to get conned at a petrol pump

Fuel price is not the only thing that should worry you when you are filling  up at a petrol pump. Chances are that you may be getting conned too. Here are a few tricks you need to watch out for

Attendant does not reset the meter to zero so you end up paying in full but get less fuel.

Some pumps rig meters that start ticking even before petrol starts to flow from the hose.

Watch out for long pipes. Pumps save a lot on these. 

Attendants stick fingers in the nozzle of the hose to reduce fuel flow

Electronic chips in fuel dispensing machines that show full fuel amount even if less oil is filled

Filling synthetic oil without your permission so you end up paying more.

Ask for a filter paper test if you think the pump is giving you adulterated petrol. This can damage your vehicle

Low engine oil or coolant scare to sell their products at the pump
