Pakistan are back in contention for a semi-final spot, something which seemed impossible a week ago.
The change in fortunes is mostly to do with some aggressive batting from the likes of Fakhar Zaman.
They will still be dependent on results going in their favour in other matches even if they beat England.
Pakistan will ideally want New Zealand to lose against Sri Lanka.
If New Zealand win by a narrow margin, Pakistan has a chance to go to the semi-finals.
If Australia lose both their matches, Babar Azam’s side qualify for the knockouts.
Afghanistan can also fight for a semi berth if they win both their matches with a good net run rate.
If New Zealand lose to Sri Lanka and Afghanistan lose both their matches, Pakistan need not worry about run rate.
All these calculations depend on Pakistan defeating England by a big margin.
It helps that Pakistan will play last, knowing exactly what they need to qualify for the semis.
