10 Important Things You Shouldn't Miss About Chhattisgarh Elections 2023

Chhattisgarh's 2023 Assembly election will take place in two phases - November 7 (Tuesday) and November 17 (Friday).

The eligible voters of the state will vote to elect 90 members of the state's Legislative Assembly.

A majority of 46 seats is required to form a government in the state. Congress is hopeful of retaining its reign, while BJP is planning to replace them.

The vote counting will be done on December 3 (Sunday), along with that of the other 4 states - Rajasthan, MP, Mizoram and Telangana.

In the 2018 polls, Congress registered a landslide victory by bagging 68 seats (currently 71), whereas BJP was reduced to just 15 seats.

This year, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s Congress will not only face threat from BJP, but also from Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP, who has announced candidates for 45 seats.

Deputy CM, TS Singh Deo, will represent Congress in the Ambikapur constituency, which he had won thrice since 2008. Tamradhwaj Sahu is fielded in Durg Rural and Charan Das Mahant in Sakti.

The political parties are to nominate all their candidates by October 20 for phase 1 and October 30 for phase 2, as the nominee scrutinization will take place on October 21 and 31, respectively.

The last day to withdraw nominated candidates is October 23 for phase 1 and November 2 for phase 2. By then all parties are expected to finalize their election contestants.
