Glenn Maxwell Breaks Kapil Dev's Record

The Aussies, who were struggling at the beginning of the World Cup, have finally made it to the semi-finals, with Maxi helping them win an almost hopeless game.

Maxi came out to bat when Australia was struggling at 49/4, smashed his third World Cup ton, helping Australia go from 91/7 to 237/7, in a chase of 292 runs.

Glenn Maxwell became Australia's first ever men's ODI double centurion on Nov 7, 2023 (Tuesday) at Wankhede ground, Mumbai, in their match vs Afghanistan.

He scored 201* (128), becoming the highest run scorer for Australia in ODIs and the second fastest to smash an ODI 200, following Ishan Kishan.

Maxi also broke India's first World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev's long standing record of highest score by a player arriving at no. 6 in the ODIs.

Kapil Dev had scored 175* during the 1983 World Cup vs Zimbabwe, helping India recover from 17/5 and 78/7, and leading them to the winning side.

He held the highest run record for 40 long years, until the 35-year-old broke it in the 39th match of the 2023 ICC men's ODI World Cup.

Maxwell showed his prowess as an all-rounder once again, by making and breaking multiple records in a single edition of World Cup.
