Afghanistan's Semi-final Qualification Scenario In World Cup

With 8 points, Afghanistan are now placed in sixth position in the World Cup standings.

The 3-wicket loss to Australia put a dent on Afghanistan’s semi-final chances.

Mathematically, Afghanistan are still in contention for a semi-final berth.

In the last league-stage fixture, they will face South Africa on Friday.

They must win against Proteas for a chance in the knockouts.

Even a win against Afghanistan may not be enough.

Afghanistan will want both New Zealand and Pakistan to lose their remaining games.

Afghanistan, New Zealand and Pakistan will end up with 10 points each if they all win.

In that case, the Net Run Rate (NRR) will determine the fourth semi-finalist.

Afghanistan will be eliminated if they lose and either of Pakistan or New Zealand win.
