The occasion of Buddha Purnima commemorates the birth of Prince Siddharta Gautama (approximately 563-483 B.C.), who is widely recognised as the Buddha & the founder of Buddhism.

Banks in some Indian states will be closed on May 5, 2023, to observe Buddha Purnima, according to the holiday calendar list published by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
