5 Women Who Made History in Indian Armed Forces in 2023 

The Indian government is actively supporting the representation of women in the Indian Army. 

The Armed Forces started the admission of women candidates into the National Defence Academy (NDA), with 19 cadets, including 10 for the Indian Army, joining the academy every six months.

Here are five women who made history by joining the Army's elite artillery units and pushed boundaries in the Indian defense forces this year.

Commander Prerna Deosthalee made history by becoming the first woman officer in the Indian Navy. Currently, she is serving as the First Lieutenant aboard the warship INS Chennai.

Avani Chaturvedi became the first woman fighter pilot of the Indian Air Force (IAF) to take part in an aerial wargame abroad.

Group Captain Shaliza Dhami made history by becoming the first woman Air Force officer to take over command of a frontline combat unit in the Western sector.
