David Warner retires from ODIs right before Test swansong
Australia opener David Warner brought the curtains down on his ODI career on Monday during a press conference in Sydney
Warner’s announcement comes shortly after he starred in Australia's World Cup win as their leading run-scorer
It brings to an end a glittering run stretching all the way back to the home series against South Africa in January 2009, when the southpaw made his debut for Australia
Warner would go on to amass 6,932 runs in 161 appearances in the format, finishing as Australia’s sixth-highest run-scorer in ODIs
Warner also has 22 centuries to his credit in ODIs, the second-most among Australian batters after Ricky Ponting (29)
Warner will also bid goodbye to the Test format this week, making his final appearance in whites in the New Year’s Test against Pakistan in Sydney
Once done with Tests and ODIs, Warner will shift his entire attention to the 20-over format, whether international or in the leagues around the world
