Golden Globes 2024: Barbie, Oppenheimer and Succession shine amid diverse talent

The 81st Golden Globes marks a new era with fresh ownership, expanded voting membership, and a diverse slate of nominees. The event promises exciting races in both film and TV categories.

The 81st Golden Globes, a significant event in Hollywood’s awards season, is set for Sunday, Jan. 7.

Jo Koy, a stand-up comedian, will host the Globes, marking his first major awards show hosting role.

Michelle Yeoh, Will Ferrell, Angela Bassett and Amanda Seyfried will be among the presenters. Others will be Julia Garner, George Lopez and Justin Hartley.

Presenters for 2024

Films nominated for best motion picture drama include “Oppenheimer,” Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro,” Celine Song’s “Past Lives,” Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” and Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest.”

In the best motion picture musical or comedy category, “Barbie” was joined by Ben Affleck’s “Air,” Cord Jefferson’s “American Fiction,” Alexander Payne’s “The Holdovers,” Todd Haynes’ “May December” and Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things.”

Succession” was the top-nominated television program, with nine nods including for series stars Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin, followed by Hulu’s “The Bear.”

Oppenheimer” and “Barbie” are the favourites to win best film drama and comedy/musical, respectively.

Lily Gladstone, Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, and Paul Giamatti are the frontrunners in acting awards.

Christopher Nolan is heavily favoured to win best director for “Oppenheimer”.
