Swami Vivekananda’s birth date on January 12, 1863, coincided with the Makar Sankranti festival.

His pre-monastic name was Narendranath Datta.

He founded two magazines Prabuddha Bharata in English and Udbodhan in Bengali.

Swami Vivekananda travelled across India for five years from 1888 to 1893.

He founded the Vedanta Society of New York in November 1894.

He founded Ramakrishna Mission, a philanthropic foundation on May 1, 1897.

In 1879, he became the only student to get first-division marks in the Presidency College entrance examination.

It is believed that Swami Vivekananda predicted his death as he mentioned that he would not live more than 40 years.

He died unexpectedly when he was 39 years and five months old. The cause of death is believed to be a rupture of a blood vessel in his brain.

Swami Vivekananda was trained in Indian classical music.
