Indian pacer Deepak Chahar aims for a comeback to the international stage, eyeing a spot in India's T20I World Cup 2024 squad.

He faced challenges, including his father's health issues, which led to his absence from India’s tour of South Africa and the home series vs Afghanistan.

Prioritizing family, he chose to be with his father during his recovery from brain stroke. “If I am not there for him in those situations, then obviously, what kind of son I am?,” Chahar exclaimed.

During his father's hospitalization, he could only focus on basic exercises, unable to engage in cricket activities. “That’s why I was not ready for the Afghanistan series,” he said.

After his father's recovery, Chahar resumed training at the NCA and regained full fitness. “I trained really hard for the IPL and the World Cup,” he said.

Securing a spot in the T20 World Cup squad holds personal significance for Chahar, representing redemption after missing out on the previous edition due to injury.

Chahar expresses confidence in his abilities, highlighting his contributions to the Indian team, in his exclusive interview with PTI.

“In any scenario or (in) any team combination, there is always a requirement for a bowler who can bat at No. 7, 8, 9. I have done that and scored runs for the Indian team,” he said.

“If I was fully fit, I would have been a part of the World Cup team as well,” the 31-year-old versatile bowler said.
