Stay Safe:  10 driving mistakes that can put you in danger

Driving requires you to pay complete attention to the road and other drivers. Driving while distracted, whether you're eating chips or a burger or checking your social media account, is a surefire way to get into an accident.

Distracted driving

Speeding is one of the most serious and common driving mistakes. If you're running late for an important appointment, it may be tempting to speed, but doing so will almost certainly result in a traffic ticket or worse an accident.

Speeding

Be alert while stopping your vehicle and taking a turn. Avoid driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, which can result in slow reaction time. Maintain enough distance between your car and the vehicle in front of you.

Slow reaction time

Always remember to use the signal when you take a turn or change lanes to inform other drivers of your next move. Do this even when no one is behind you to make it a habit.

Not using the turn signal

A yellow light signals you to slow down before a stop, but some people rush to pass the signal, which can be deadly.

Many drivers attempt to drive with one hand or fail to practise proper steering wheel techniques. This is dangerous.

Never drive long distances or at highway speeds if you're tired or sluggish. It could be fatal. If you're tired, try taking a nap before heading out on the road.

Always check your blind spot before changing lanes or turning.
