Budget 2024: Women welfare in focus

Enhanced Target for 'Lakhpati Didis': The government aims to empower self-help group workers, referred to as 'Lakhpati Didis,' by increasing their target. These workers are expected to earn a sustainable income of at least one lakh rupees annually.

 Healthcare Insurance for Anganwadi and ASHA Workers: The Ayushman Bharat scheme's healthcare insurance cover is extended to all Anganwadi and ASHA workers. Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri-Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) provides a substantial coverage of ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.

Educational Empowerment of Women: The Finance Minister highlighted a 28% increase in female enrollment in higher education over the past decade. In STEM courses, girls and women constitute 43% of enrollment, showcasing one of the highest participation rates globally.

Women's Participation in the Workforce: The budget emphasizes the positive impact of various measures on women's workforce participation, including legal measures like making triple talaq illegal, and initiatives like the reservation of one-third of seats for women in Parliament and state assemblies.

Housing Dignity for Women: Over 70% of houses under the PM Awas Yojana are allocated to women, contributing to an increase in their dignity by providing them with secure housing. This reflects the government's commitment to improving the socio-economic status of women in the country.
