Rachin Ravindra converted his maiden Test ton into a double hundred in the 1st Test vs South Africa on February 5 (Mon) at Mount Maunganui.

The 24-year-old reached the milestone on the second day of the match, helping New Zealand surpass the 400-run mark in the first innings.

Ravindra attained his double century by working a single to point off Proteas captain, Neil Brand, during the second session.

Previously, Ravindra's highest score in Test cricket was 18, which he achieved twice against India during the 2021 tour.

Former West Indies cricketer-turned-commentator, Ian Bishop, heaped massive praise on the youngster for playing a commendable knock.

“The young man playing in his 7th test innings, moved from a previous highest test score of 18 to 200+. Rachin Ravindra fill your boots,” Bishop posted on X.

Ravindra gained international attention during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in India, hitting tons against England, Australia and Pakistan, finishing as the 4th-highest run-getter in the tournament.

Despite playing only his 4th Test, Ravindra showcased promising batting skills after New Zealand lost both openers on Day 1 of the match.

“The way I bat is natural…but on that surface, I had to be a lot more selective. Kane (Williamson) provided me with the perfect template of how to do it,” Ravindra said.

Kane and  Ravindra’s partnership of 232 runs for the 3rd wicket is now the second-highest for New Zealand against the Proteas.
