10 doctor-approved tips for a healthy diet

The following tips for a healthy diet has been shared by Dr Sudhir Kumar, a neurologist, with Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad.

When you are thirsty, choose water over fruit juice or soft drinks

Diet soft drinks are not healthy.

While having tea or coffee, it is better to have them without adding sugar or artificial (zero calorie) sweeteners.

It is not mandatory to have biscuits (even if it is Marie gold) with tea.

Choose fruits that are locally grown and fresh (seasonal), over imported fruits or that are stored in cold storage for months

Prefer whole fruits over fruit juices.

6.

Dry fruits were meant for people living in deserts; we are privileged to have fresh fruits (small amounts of dry fruits is fine).

7.

A handful of nuts (mix of various nuts) per day is healthy.

8.

No amount of alcohol is deemed safe for health reasons.

9.

Smoking in public is unhealthy and illegal; smoking in private is unhealthy.
