Just cheese-tastic! Rasmalai ranks among the best cheese desserts in the world

Taste Atlas has released its rankings for the best cheese desserts from across the world. India's rasmalai has clinched the second position. Here are the others

1. Sernik (Poland) This traditional Polish cheesecake, made with eggs, sugar, and twaróg cheese, traces its roots back to the 17th Century, blending old Christian and Jewish culinary traditions.

2. Ras malai (India) Rasmalai is a beloved Indian dessert featuring creamy paneer cheese cooked in a sweet milk syrup flavoured with cardamom and garnished with nuts and saffron.

3. Sfakianopita (Greece) This treat, made up of layers of thin dough and soft white whey cheese that is fried until golden and crispy, offers a delightful contrast of textures and flavours.

4. New York-style cheesecake (New York City, USA) This cheesecake featuring ingredients like cream cheese, eggs, and a graham cracker or sponge cake crust is known for its dense and rich texture.

5. Japanese cheesecake (Japan) This is a light and fluffy delicacy made by whisking egg whites into the mixture, resulting in a soufflé-like texture that melts in your mouth. It is often served hot or cold.

6. Basque Cheesecake (Spain) It is a creamy and crustless cheesecake made with cream cheese, eggs, and sugar, baked to perfection for a gooey centre and caramelised exterior.

7. Rákóczi túrós (Hungary) Rákóczi túrós is a Hungarian curd cheese cake, with a shortcrust pastry base, sweetened curd cheese layer, and topped with meringue.

8. Melopita (Greece) Translated as honey pie, this Greek dessert combines fresh cheese, eggs, and honey, baked into a round, crustless cake, garnished with cinnamon and extra honey for a delightful treat.
