The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has successfully connected the forthcoming Mumbai Coastal Road (MCR) with the current Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL) utilising 'tidal waves conditions' in the Arabian Sea, according to authorities here on Friday.

The crucial milestone was reached by successfully installing the first, huge 136-meter-long Bow Arch String Girder, composed of steel and weighing about 2,000 tonnes, at 3.25 a.m. (Friday morning), joining two vital highways in south Mumbai via India's largest 'arch bridge'.

BMC Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Additional Municipal Commissioner Amit Saini, and other officials observed the engineering miracle being accomplished after a nail-biting 85-minute effort in the early hours of the morning while Mumbai slept, with the gigantic girder 18-21 metres wide.
