5 High Profile Names Who Said No To India Head Coach Job

Rahul Dravid's Term End

Rahul Dravid's term as the Indian head coach is ending after the T20 World Cup 2024. The former Indian captain will not be reapplying for the role even after senior players asking him to. With BCCI's hunt for his replacement, several big names have opted out.

Ricky Ponting

The Delhi Capitals head coach has turned down the India head coach job offer citing his current lifestyle and involvement in the IPL.

Ponting said, “I’d love to be a senior coach of a national team, but with the other things that I have in my life and wanting to have a bit of time at home…everyone knows if you take a job working with the Indian team, you can’t be involved in an IPL team, so it would take that out of it as well.”

Andy Flower

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru head coach said, “I won’t be applying [for the job]. I am happy with my involvement in the franchise game at the moment.”

VVS Laxman

The current head of NCA was widely speculated to succeed his former India teammate in the role. However, as per the report, he is unlikely to apply.

Justin Langer

The Australian cricket coach said that the time isn't right for him to take up the "awesome job" of India's head coach.

Stephen Fleming

Chennai Super Kings chief executive, Kasi Viswanathan, said that Fleming, the team's coach, would not like to take a job that requires him to work "for nine-ten months in a year".
