India led immigration to the UK in 2023, gets highest study visas

Despite a 10% decrease in net immigration, Indians emerged as the largest group of migrants to the UK in 2023, as per the data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

In 2023, 2,50,000 Indian migrants moved to the UK, primarily for employment and educational opportunities.

Out of the 2,50,000 Indians, 1,27,000 came for work, 1,15,000 for studies, and 9,000 for other reasons.

The UK in 2023 granted about 1,14,409 graduate visas, allowing students to work after they graduate. 50,503 of these were Indians.

According to the Home Office Immigration Statistics, Indians received the highest number of study visas in the UK.

Following Indians, Nigerians were the next largest group of immigrants with 141,000 arrivals, trailed by 90,000 Chinese, 83,000 Pakistanis, and 36,000 Zimbabweans.
