Telangana has announced a comprehensive ban on the manufacture, storage, distribution, sale of gutka and pan masala containing tobacco and nicotine
This ban is set for a period of one year, with the possibility of further extensions based on public health needs.
The enforcement of this ban falls under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
It explicitly prohibits the manufacture, storage, distribution, transportation, and sale of these products within the state.
The decision stems from the recognised health risks associated with gutka and pan masala.
These products are major contributors to oral cancer, oral submucous fibrosis, and various other serious health issues.
