If you think conquering Everest is only about physical fitness, think again. Scaling the world's tallest mountain is a formidable test of human spirit and endurance. Here's what it takes….

WORLD'S TALLEST MOUNTAIN At 8,848.86 meters Mt Everest is Earth's highest mountain above sea.

$40,000 - $100,000: What climbers may have to spend for the expedition. This includes the climbing permit from the govt of Nepal or Tibet, medical care, cost of the guide, and other supplies.

HOW LONG DOES IS TAKE TO CLIMB MOUNT EVEREST Typically, a Mt Everest summit expedition takes 60-75 days. This includes weeks of acclimatisation rotations.

The trek to Mt Everest exposes the mountaineers to extreme cold, low humidity, increased ultraviolet radiation and reduced air pressure.

For this reason they are not allowed to trek without proper altitude acclimatisation.

Climbers spend nearly two weeks hiking to the Everest base camp (altitude 17,000 feet). They spend 12-14 days in the base camp adjusting to the altitude before ascending to the summit.

WHAT ONE MAY FACE AT HIGHER ALTITUDES

Above 5,000 feet: Breathlessness due to fall in oxygen levels. Above 6,600 feet: Mountain sickness may cause headache, fatigue, stomach illness, dizziness and sleep disturbance. Above 8,000 feet: Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) may affect brain and lungs. Above 10,000 feet: Hypoxemia (low blood Oxygen) may cause decision impairment, hallucinations in extreme cases. Above 11500-18,000 feet: Extreme hypoxemia can prove fatal if ignored.
