T20 World Cup 2024: USA Created History in Opening Match Against Canada

Aaron Jones smashed an unbeaten 94 off 40 to power USA to a seven-wicket win over Canada in the opening match of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Dallas.

By successfully chasing 195 with 14 balls remaining, USA now holds the record for the third-highest successful run chase in the history of the T20 World Cup.

USA's 197/3 is now the highest score by an Associate Nation in T20 World Cup. Interestingly, Canada's 194/5 in the first innings was the the previous highest.

Jones' 94, supported by Andries Gous' 65 off 46 took their team home, as the two struck a century partnership.

Aaron Jones now holds the record for the second-highest individual score on T20 World Cup debut, only behind Chris Gayle's 117 against South Africa.

Jones also smashed 10 sixes during his innings, which is the joint second-most by a batter in a T20 World Cup match, following Chris Gayle's 11 maximums.

Earlier, Navneet Dhaliwal and Nicholas Kirton struck half-centuries as Canada posted a challenging 194/5. Dhaliwal made 61 while Kirton 51.

Shreyas Movva provided the late flourish with a blazing cameo – an unbeaten 32 off 16.
