The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed a human case of bird flu in India, specifically the H9N2 virus, in a four-year-old child from West Bengal. This is the second H9N2 case reported in India; the first was in 2019.

Symptoms range from mild upper respiratory tract infections to severe diseases. Other symptoms include conjunctivitis, gastrointestinal issues, encephalitis, and encephalopathy. The infection can be fatal.
