Annual Amarnath Yatra commences

The annual Amarnath Yatra began on June 29, with pilgrims departing from Baltal and Nunwan base camps to the 3,880-meter-high cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas.

Pilgrims started early in the morning via two routes: the 48-kilometer Nunwan-Pahalgam route and the shorter 14-kilometer Baltal route.

Pilgrims will visit the cave shrine, which houses a naturally formed ice-lingam, to offer their prayers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his wishes, emphasizing the spiritual significance of the Amarnath Yatra.

Over 3.50 lakh people have registered for this year's yatra, supported by 125 community kitchens and over 6,000 volunteers.

The 52-day Amarnath Yatra will conclude on August 19
