Maharashtrian cuisine offers a wide array of dishes, from simple and nutritious options to elaborate and spicy fare. Here are five classic Maharashtrian rice recipes you can have at home.

Masale Bhaat

Cook rice with vegetables like peas, potatoes, and cashews along with the special Maharashtrian masala that consists of various spices ground.

Vangi Bhaat

Vangi bhaat is made with rice, brinjal, spices, tamarind, and a special masala blend that includes roasted sesame seeds, groundnuts, and coconut.

Phodnicha Bhaat

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard and cumin seeds, green chilies, curry leaves, chopped onion, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Now, add cooked rice to this mix. Lastly, add a pinch of sugar and lemon juice. Stir it well and serve.

Matar Bhaat

Add oil, cumin seeds, bay leaves, cinnamon, cardamom, chopped onion, garlic green chili paste, coriander powder, goda masala, turmeric powder, and red chili powder to a pressure cooker. Now, add washed and soaked rice to this mix. Add matar and salt and cook it for 2 whistles.

Til Gul Bhaat

Steam rice and serve them with sesame seeds or jaggery.
