Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her seventh consecutive budget speech, announced several measures to boost development in Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. Here are some of the key announcements:
The government will set up airports, medical colleges and sports infrastructure in Bihar.
The union government will arrange financial assistance to Bihar through aid from multilateral development agencies.
The FM proposed ₹26,000 crore for various road projects in Bihar.
In a boost to religious tourism, FM proposed a new temple corridor to be constructed for Vishnupad at Gaya and for Mahabodhi temple corridor at Bodh Gaya.
Both the corridors will be supported and modelled on the Kashi Vishwanath temple. Once completed, they will be converted into world class tourist destinations.
A comprehensive development scheme has been announced for Rajgir. Nalanda in Bihar will be developed as tourist destination.
The government will arrange ₹15,000 crore this fiscal and in future years for development of capital city of Andhra Pradesh.
It will also facilitate special financial support for development of capital city in Andhra Pradesh.
Backward region grant will be provided to 3 districts of Andhra Pradesh, Sitharaman said.
She added that the government is fully committed for completion and financing of Polavaram irrigation project.
The government will also formulate Purvodaya plan for all round development of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh.
