IPL vs PSL: Player Salary Structure and Other Differences Between The T20 Leagues

The 2025 edition of the PSL is set to take place in the same April-May window as the IPL. Here are the key differences between the two T20 leagues.

The PSL salaries are divided into five categories– Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver, Emerging, and Supplementary.

Earning range of PSL players (in INR)- Platinum: 1cr to 1.5cr, Diamond: 50L to 67L Gold: 33L to 41L, Silver: 12L to 20L Emerging: 6L, Supplementary: 41.9L

IPL players, however, are auctioned off without salary caps, allowing franchises to bid as high as they want.

The minimum base price of ₹10 lakh for players in the IPL auction have now doubled to 20 lakh.

The IPL prize money for the winning team has been ₹15cr in 2016 and 2017, and ₹20cr from 2018 onwards.

On the other hand, the PSL prize money for the winning team has been ₹2.2cr from 2016 to 2019, ₹5.1 cr in 2020, and ₹5.4cr from 2021 onwards.

The media rights amount however puts PSL above the IPL as the PSL media rights have been bought for ₹52,000 cr, while the amount for the IPL is ₹51,000 cr.
