Sri Lanka Debutant Milan Rathnayake Sets Test Record

Sri Lanka debutant Milan Rathnayake has scripted a new Test record against England.

Rathnayake played a fine knock of 72 on the opening day of the first Test.

He has now become the highest scorer at the number 9 spot in men's Test cricket.

With this, he managed to break the 41-year-old Test record.

The previous record was held by India's Balwinder Sandhu.

Sandhu had scored 71 against Pakistan in Hyderabad back in 1983.

Rathnayake’s brilliant knock against England comprised 6 boundaries and 2 sixes.

Sri Lanka posted 236 runs in the first innings of the Test.

Chris Woakes and Shoaib Bashir bagged 3 wickets each for England in the first innings.

England finished the day’s play at 22 without losing a wicket.
