Spick and Span! 8 ways to clean your dirty microwave

Use vinegar mixture Mix a cup of water with half a cup of vinegar in a microwavable bowl. Put it in the microwave and heat it for about four minutes. The steam will loosen the grime so you can wipe it off afterwards.

Use lemon water Fill three-fourth of a microwavable bowl with water and add some fresh lemon slices. Microwave on high heat for about five minutes, then leave the bowl inside for a few minutes to let the steam do the magic. Finally, wipe down the interior.

Baking soda  For tougher stains in your microwave, you need a stronger cleaning agent than vinegar or lemon. For your microwave’s rubber gaskets, dampen a clean kitchen sponge with water and then dip it in baking soda. Use this to wipe away that gross build-up of dirt and grime.

Dish soap Many times tough stains like those from gravies need to be softened. Like baking soda, many people use dish soap due to its strong cleaning properties. You can mix it with water or directly apply it to the dirty spot to remove it.

Use old toothbrush Your regular cleaning methods cannot reach the nooks and crannies of the microwave. To remove grease stuck in corners, vents and other places a toothbrush can be used.

Hand wash the rotating plate and grill stand The best way to clean the rotating plate is to remove and hand-wash it. Use natural dish soap or vinegar and baking soda to clean the plate and stubborn stains on the plate respectively.

Hydrogen peroxide Remember that the control panel and the glass door are full of bacteria. Cleaning these with hydrogen peroxide is important as it is a disinfectant cleaner.

Paper towel Consider using a paper towel and not a wet cloth as the latter will make the microwave murkier. Put a handful of damp paper towels directly in the microwave and heat them. The steam will help loosen the grime.
