Why Gurudwara Committee Is Demanding Ban On Kangana Ranaut's Emergency

Global Sikh advocacy group SGPC has called for an immediate ban on Emergency.

According to the committee, the Kangana Ranaut film is "disrespectful to Sikh martyrs".

The council called the upcoming movie a propaganda project that "misrepresents historical events."

The Akal Takht has asserted that the film tries to "character assassinate" the community.

The head of Akal Takht said the movie attempts to portray Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale unfavourably.

Sri Akal Takht Sahib has pronounced Bhindranwale a 'Qaumi Shaheed' or the martyr of the community.

The film is based on former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's declaration of national emergency in 1975.

The council added the movie would exacerbate political unrest and hurt Sikhs' religious sentiments.

It claimed that Emergency purposefully depicts Sikhs as separatists, which is a part of  a "deep conspiracy."
