India sees alarming increase in student suicides: Check state-wise trends

Over the past 20 years, the rate of student suicides in India has increased at a concerning 4% annually, which is twice the national average, according to a new report by IC3 Movement.

The report "Student Suicides: An Epidemic Sweeping India," based on NCRB data and launched at the 2024 Annual IC3 Conference, shows the top three states account for one-third of the national total. Here are the states with the highest number of student suicides:

Number of student suicides: 1,764

MAHARASHTRA

Number of student suicides: 1,416

TAMIL NADU

Number of student suicides: 1,340

MADHYA PRADESH

Number of student suicides: 1,060

UTTAR PRADESH

Number of student suicides: 824

JHARKHAND

Rajasthan, home to the Kota coaching city, ranks 10th with 571 student suicides.
