Frances Tiafoe Joins Elite List After Reaching His 3rd US Open Quarter-final

Frances Tiafoe has become the fourth American to reach three US Open quarter-finals.

The feat was earlier achieved by Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick and Pete Sampras.

Roddick was the last American player to win the US Open title in 2003.

Tiafoe beat Australia’s Alexei Popyrin to progress to his third quarter-final.

Popyrin had eliminated defending champion Novak Djokovic in the previous round.

Tiafoe beat Popyrin 6-4, 7-6 (7/3), 2-6, 6-3.

The American will next face Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-final.

Tiafoe reached the last eight of the previous two editions of the US Open.

Taylor Fritz is another American who has made it to the quarter-finals this year.

The 26-year-old overcame Norway’s Casper Ruud in the Round of 16.
