Who is AAP's Atishi, Delhi's New Chief Minister:

5 Things You Must Know

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on September 17, 2024, proposed the name of Minister Atishi as the new chief minister of Delhi. She was elected at a meeting of AAP's legislative party.

Atishi will be the third woman to hold the post of the Delhi Chief Minister after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dixit.

Atishi is a senior leader of AAP and a member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Kalkaji constituency. She first rose to prominence as an advisor to the Delhi government's education department and later became an MLA after winning the 2020 elections.

Atishi has a background in education, policy, and governance. She completed her education at St Stephen’s College, Delhi University, and later pursued further studies at the University of Oxford.

Atishi is widely credited for spearheading major education reforms in Delhi's government schools. She had served as the advisor to Manish Sisodia, former education minister, until April 2018. She played a crucial role in revamping school infrastructure, improving teaching standards, and introducing innovative programs like the "Happiness Curriculum" and “Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum.”

In March 2023, Atishi was inducted into the Delhi cabinet, taking over the portfolios of education, public works department (PWD), power, and tourism after the resignation of former ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain amid legal issues.

Apart from her work in education, Atishi is also a strong advocate for environmental issues. She promoted policies related to renewable energy, pollution control, and sustainability in Delhi.
