Uthappa or uthappams are another popular dish in South India apart from dosas which are made from the same dosa or idli batter. Try this tasty South Indian cheese uthappa recipe at home.
Rice - 2 cups Urad Dal - 1 cup Fenugreek Seeds - 1 tbsp Poha - 1/4 cup Salt - As per taste Onion - 2 Tomatoes - 2 Capsicum - 1 Carrot - 1 Green Chilli - 1 Cheese Cubes - As needed Oil - For cooking
For the batter, soak the rice and dal in two separate vessels overnight. Grind them separately adding water as per the required consistency. Mix both the pastes in a big vessel and keep stirring it for some time in one direction. Add salt to the fermented batter.
Grease the pan with oil and pour the batter and spread thickly in a round shape.
Add chopped onions, tomatoes, capsicum, and other vegetables, cover the pan with a plate, and let it cook.
Remove the covered plate, add some oil, and spread evenly all over the uthappam. Now, turn the uthappam and cook it for another minute.
Turn the uthappam on the topping side and take it out on a plate. Add grated cheese all over the top and let the cheese melt.
