AMD and Micron are set to boost India’s semiconductor industry with around 14,,000 new jobs, as they expand their operations and invest in AI and ML technologies.
The companies have received praise from PM Modi, who highlighted India’s talent pool and strength of semiconductor designers.
AMD says it will hire 3,000 more engineers in India by 2028. The India teams will help AMD improve its AI, ML, hardware and software skills.
Micron is building a project in Gujarat, which will give jobs to 5,000 people directly and 15,000 people indirectly.
Foxconn will invest Rs 1,600 crore towards building a greenfield electronics facility in Tamil Nadu. This investment has potential to generate up to new 6,000 jobs.
India has a massive talent pool, skilled engineers, and strength of semiconductor designers, said PM Modi.
Modi says he has found over 300 colleges where students can learn about semiconductors. He hopes to have more than 1 lakh design engineers in the next 5 years.
