Who is Shreegauri Sawant, Played by Sushmita Sen in Taali?

Sushmita Sen will play Shreegauri Sawant in her upcoming series Taali, which will start streaming from August 15.

Shreegauri Sawant is a renowned transgender activist of India, who is based out of Mumbai.

She was born as Ganesh in Pune. Not wanting to be disappoint to her father, she left home at around 14-15 years old.

 Gauri is the founder of the Sakhi Char Chowghi Trust. The NGO helps transgender people and people with HIV/AIDS.

In 2014, she became the first transgender person to file a petition in the Supreme Court of India for adoption rights of transgender people.

She was a petitioner in the National Legal Services Authority case, which helped transgenders get recognised as the third gender by the Supreme Court.

Gauri adopted a girl named Gayatri in 2008 after the little girl's mother died of AIDS.

She was made the goodwill ambassador of Election Commission in Maharashtra.

Taali, a biopic on her life, will feature former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen play her.
