If there’s a record of the most runs, Sachin Tendulkar's name has to be there. With 2278 runs in 45 matches, he leads the list.

Ricky Ponting, one of the most successful captains in cricket history, has 1743 runs in 46 matches.

Sri Lanka’s highest scorer, Kumar Sangakkara, leads his nation here too. The southpaw is third on the list, with 1532 runs in 37 matches.

Brian Lara aka Prince of Port of Spain is West Indies’ leading run-scorer in World Cup history with 1225 runs to his name.

AB de Villiers has played fewer matches than others on the list but still finds himself in the middle of the pack, with 1207 runs in just 23 games.

It shouldn’t be a surprise to see the Universe Boss on the list. Chris Gayle dominated bowlers in his unique style scoring 1186 runs in the process.

Sanath Jayasuriya had no mercy for the bowlers. He scored 1165 runs in World Cup history, claiming the seventh spot on this list.

Jacques Kallis, the South African all-rounder, has 1148 runs to his name in addition to 21 wickets.

Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, the only active player on the list, has scored 1146 runs.

Creator of ‘Dil-scoop’, Tillakaratne Dilshan finds himself in the tenth spot closing out the list. The opener hammered 1112 runs for Sri Lanka  in his WC appearances.
