The Emmy-winning comedian is poised to mark his first-ever appearance in India during the eagerly awaited Off The Record Tour in September this year. Here's a little backstory to Trevor Noah:

Comedian, writer, producer, political commentator

Succeeded Jon Stewart as the host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" in 2015 becoming the first South African to host a late-night talk show in the United States.

Has won multiple awards for his comedy and writing. Speaks six languages fluently - English, Southern Sotho, Zulu, Xhosa, Tswana, Tonga and very basic Afrikaans.

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa on February 20, 1984 to a black Xhosa mother (Patricia) and a white Swiss father (Robert), making his very existence a violation of strict racial separation laws of apartheid.

His memoir "Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood" was a New York Times bestseller; was critically acclaimed for its insightful and humorous portrayal of his upbringing during apartheid.

A man’s memoir set in apartheid’s twilight and the chaotic freedom that followed. It narrates his journey from a mischievous boy living with an abusive stepfather to a restless man in a world where he was never meant to exist.

The book concludes with Patricia, shot in the head by her abusive ex while returning from church, miraculously surviving. A film adaptation is announced, with Lupita Nyong’o to star as Patricia.
