Tech giant Meta announced its new Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses at the Meta Connect Event on Sept. 27.

The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses have two functions: audio and camera

The personal audio system built into these glasses offers an immersive audio experience that only the wearer can hear.

Calls

Compared to the previous Stories model, which had only one microphone, the upgraded microphone technology has five microphones, to take calls

On each right temple of the glasses are microscopic camera lenses that capture 12-megapixel still photographs and 1080p movies.

Livestreaming

Meta now also allows users to start live feeds on Facebook or Instagram with just a few taps on the glasses' stem.

Battery

The glasses are supposed to last between four and six hours on a single charge. The supplied case can charge the glasses an additional eight times, addressing the demand for longer usage.

The new pair are available to preorder at Ray-Ban or Meta starting at $299 (or $329 for Polarized lenses, or more for prescription) and start shipping on Oct. 17

Upgrades

Starting next year, a free software update will allow the embedded AI assistant to literally see what you're seeing and hear what you're hearing.
