Michael Gambon, Who Played Dumbledore, Dies

Sir Michael Gambon has died at the age of 82, his family confirmed.

The actor is best known for playing Professor Albus Dumbledore in six of the eight Harry Potter films.

Sir Michael was born in Dublin, Ireland.

In his over five-decade-long career, he worked in TV, film, theatre and radio.

His widow Anne Miller and son Fergus said their "beloved husband and father" died peacefully after suffering from pneumonia.

The actor is also known for playing French detective Jules Maigret in the series Maigret.

Sir Michael will also be remembered for playing Philip Marlow in Dennis Potter's The Singing Detective.

He was one of the original members of the Royal National Theatre in London.

The actor was knighted for services to the entertainment industry in 1998.
