IOC Session in Mumbai: Cricket returns to Olympics after 128 years!

The 141st International Olympics Session is currently underway at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai between 15 to 17 October

Among the biggest decisions taken so far is the IOC formally approving cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 LA Olympics programme along with four other sports

Cricket thus, will be returning to the Olympics for the first time since Paris 1900, where Great Britain defeated France in the only match in the entire event

Here’s how key figures such as IOC president Thomas Bach and Reliance Foundation Chairperson Nita Ambani reacted to the development

Thomas Bach, IOC president: “The Olympic Games wanted to incorporate the most popular sports worldwide… Therefore, this proposal was very welcome”

Nita Ambani, Reliace Foundation Chairperson: "The inclusion of cricket in the Olympics will create deeper engagement for the Olympic Movement in newer geographies"

Jay Shah, BCCI secretary: “We are thrilled to witness this momentous occasion, which marks a significant milestone for the sport”

Greg Barclay, ICC Chairman: “We do not want to see it as a one-off, we are looking to be a permanent member of the Olympic movement.”
