Danushka Gunathilaka’s ban lifted after batter cleared of sexual assault charges

Sri Lanka opener Danushka Gunathilaka had been arrested last November during the T20 World Cup in Australia on charges of violent rape

Gunathilaka had been arrested in Sydney, and his Sri Lankan teammates subsequently flew back home without him after their early exit from the T20 World Cup

The southpaw was subsequently suspended by Sri Lanka Cricket from all forms of the game shortly after the rape charge

Though initially denied bail, Gunathilaka would later be granted the same by a Sydney court though he was barred from using social media while awaiting trial

The Downing Centre Local Court later dropped three out of four charges against Gunathilaka in May na dhe was later found not guilty on the fourth charge

SLC then lifted Gunathilaka’s ban on Tuesday with immediate effect following Gunathilaka’s return home after his acquittal

The 32-year-old has since stated he can’t wait “to go back and play cricket”
