The snakes can inject or inoculate venom into our bodies by using their modified teeth which are called fangs. The venom is secreted by the oral glands of the snakes.

Snake venom is a protein-based toxin which gets digested with the help of stomach acids and digestive enzymes if swallowed.

It does not typically produce an alcohol-like high, but can induce symptoms that could have effects on the nervous system and other psychological processes.

The venom also affects the muscarinic receptors, which a key role in psychological processes such as memory enhancement and learning.

If there is a wound in your mouth, food pipe, intestine or any internal organ, then this venom can come in contact with your bloodstream which can lead to paralysis and death.

The venom is ineffective unless it comes in contact with blood. Hence, such acts should never be tried without the proper guidance of a health professional.

If the venom reaches your bloodstream, then it can enter your arteries and will start forming a blood clot in the same way as happens after a snake bite.

According to a paper published in the Indian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, there are psychological characteristics that snake venom could induce: High levels of sensation, low harm avoidance, impulsivity, high energy and excitement and stimulation (on multiple use), openness in expression and neuroticism.

Researchers have found that the psychotropic properties of cobra venom partially resemble the action of morphine.
