Coriander leaves or dhaniya is used in many Indian dishes. Its addition not only enhances the taste of the dish but also increases its nutritional value.
Here is a step-by-step guide to growing dhaniya in your kitchen garden.
Put some coriander seeds in a shallow dish and pour water until the seeds are covered.
Step 1
Cover the dish with a plastic bag or a lid for 3 to 4 days to create a humid environment that will encourage the seeds to sprout.
Step 2
Get a plant pot ready for planting the coriander seeds by using expanded clay.
Step 3
Cover the drainage layer with a sheet of burlap or sack.
Step 4
Fill the pot with compost. Place the sprouted seeds in the soil, covering them with a thin layer of compost.
Step 5
Spray water on the soil after covering the seeds with a thin layer of compost.
Step 6
Place the pot in a bright and sunny location in your kitchen garden.
Step 7
Water the plant regularly to ensure that the soil is moist and doesn’t dry out.
Step 8
If you notice slow growth or a plant that needs a boost, you can feed it with a light liquid fertiliser every couple of weeks.
Step 9
After 5 to 6 weeks you can harvest coriander leaves as they are bright green and young.
