How to Grow Lemon Tree From Seeds At Home

Extracting Seeds

Remove seeds from a fresh lemon. Clean them thoroughly to remove any pulp or residue.

Seed Inspection

Check the seeds for viability. Healthy seeds are plump and show no signs of damage.

Pre-Soaking

Soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours to soften the outer shell.

Seed Planting

Plant the seeds in a seed-starting mix or potting soil. Plant them about half an inch to an inch deep.

Location

Place the container in a warm and sunny location. Lemon trees thrive in full sunlight.

Watering

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Use a spray bottle to avoid disturbing the seeds.

Germination

Germination may take several weeks. Once sprouts appear, thin them to leave only the healthiest one.

Transplanting

When the seedling develops a couple of leaves, transplant it into a larger container or directly into the ground.

Fertilization

Feed the young lemon tree with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer, following the package instructions.

Pruning

Prune the tree as it grows, to encourage a strong structure.
