10 Tips to Grow Garlic at Home

Plant the garlic cloves in the first few weeks of fall as they produce bigger bulbs when they go through a cold period.

Choose a well-draining, neutral soil to plant the cloves.

Make sure the planting spot gets 6-8 hours of direct sunlight everyday.

Choose large, clean garlic cloves as they have the best chances to grow well.

Sow the cloves 5-6 inches apart in tiny holes. The pointy part should be face up.

Cover the seeds in straw mulch during the winter months.

Water your garlic plant once a week once winter begins to change to spring.

Garlic likes nitrogen. After checking your soil, you can add nitogen-rich fertilizer in spring.

Your garlic plant will be ready for harvesting in summer, once the leaves start turning yellow.

Store the garlic bulbs in a cool, dry spot for up to 6-7 months.
