Yamaha has unveiled the 2025 R1 and R1M globally, featuring new updates. The R1 is road-legal in the US, while both models remain track-only in Europe.
The 2025 YZF R1 adopts a new design inspired by Yamaha’s MotoGP bike, featuring aggressive fairing winglets to enhance aerodynamics and visual appeal.
The R1 receives a new 43mm KYB fork, Brembo Stylema monobloc callipers, and a new Brembo master cylinder, aimed at improving overall braking performance.
Yamaha has upgraded the seat material on the R1 for better comfort, enhancing the riding experience for both the rider and the pillion.
The 2025 R1M mirrors the R1’s design but adds a 43mm Öhlins electronic NPX fork and a fully adjustable Öhlins monoshock, offering superior handling.
R1M includes Yamaha’s GPS data-logging system, allowing riders to record lap data, make system adjustments, and wirelessly transfer settings via smartphone.
Both models continue with the same 998cc inline 4-cylinder engine, delivering 200PS and 113Nm, paired with a robust aluminium Deltabox frame for reliability.
R1 and R1M share a 4.3-inch TFT display, 6-axis IMU, traction control, cornering ABS, wheelie control, and launch control, enhancing rider assistance.
The R1 is road-legal only in the US due to more lenient emission standards. Stricter Euro5+ norms keep both models as track-only in Europe.
India’s BS6.2 standards are stricter than Euro5, making the R1 unlikely for road use here. Yamaha may consider a track-only version for enthusiasts.
