The 23-year-old was called up for the recent Test series against Sri Lanka.
Jacob Bethell will support Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran in the middle order.
The Warwickshire all-rounder can also be used as a part-time spinner.
England have handed the debut cap to another all-rounder- Jamie Overton.
The 30-year-old made his Test debut against New Zealand in 2022.
A right-arm pacer, Overton also adds batting strength at the tail end.
