Here are five types of food that are generally avoided or restricted in space due to various reasons such as safety, preservation and practicality.

Bread tends to produce a lot of crumbs and can become stale quickly, making it impractical for space missions.

Alcohol inside a space station poses safety risks not just for the crew's health but also the equipment during space missions.

Items like salt, pepper and sugar in loose form are avoided due to the risk of them floating away and causing contamination or hazards.

Perishable foods that spoil quickly are avoided in favor of shelf-stable or specially preserved options to ensure food safety and longevity during long-duration missions.

Carbonated beverages can cause discomfort and even lead to health issues in space due to changes in gas behaviour in a microgravity environment.
