Some foods that are labelled as “gluten-free”, “enriched” and “veggie”, among others, might not be as healthy as you think.

Gluten-free products: There is no strong evidence that products without gluten are healthier. A gluten-free diet is not considered any more nutritious unless you have a gluten sensitivity and celiac disease.

Granola bars: Several granola bars that are marketed as “healthy” have high amounts of added sugar. One should try to look for options with unsweetened dry fruits, whole nuts and seeds.

Sweet potato fries: Sweet potato is considered a healthier option over regular potato. However, their nutrient profiles are actually quite similar. To top it all, in the fried form, sweet potato’s differences over potato become all the more minor.

Flavoured yoghurt: Yoghurt is considered a healthy alternative due to the presence of probiotics in it that are beneficial for a healthy gut. However, flavoured yoghurts are loaded with added sugar. Even the fruit yoghurts contain fruit extracts with traces of palm sugar.

Energy drinks: Energy drinks are a better bet for people who have intense workout schedules and who are marathon-runners. For people who don’t pertain to the aforementioned criteria, energy drinks are an added source of sugar.
